True Blood On HBO

True Blood is an American television drama series created and produced by Alan Ball. It is based on the The Southern Vampire Mysteries series of novels by Charlaine Harris, and details the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, a fictional small Louisiana town. The series centers on Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a bar, who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).

First Season:

The main mystery of the first season concerns the murders of women connected to Sookie's brother, Jason (Ryan Kwanten). Maudette Pickens and Dawn Green are both strangled shortly after having been alone with Jason. Though Detective Bellefleur has little doubt that Jason is the killer, the town sheriff does not suspect him. Jason and Sookie's grandmother is murdered shortly afterward. At the end of the season it is revealed that Arlene Fowler's fiancé, Rene Lenier, is actually a man named Drew Marshall who has created a false identity, complete with Cajun accent. He has been killing women he considers "fang-bangers."

The first season also focuses on Sookie's relationship with Bill and Sam's relationship with Sookie's friend Tara. Bill explains the rules of being a vampire to Sookie and (after killing a vampire to defend her) is forced to "turn" a young girl named Jessica into a vampire as punishment. In the last episode of the season, Jessica is left under Bill's care. After Maudette and Dawn's murders, Jason becomes addicted to vampire blood and has a short relationship with another addict, Amy Burley, which ends when she is murdered by Drew. The season ends with the discovery of a body in Detective Andy Bellefleur's car in the Merlotte's parking lot.

Second Season:

Season two focuses on two main plots – in the first, the disappearance of the 2,000-year old vampire Sheriff of Area 9, Godric (Allan Hyde) causes Eric to enlist Sookie's and Bill's aid in finding the ancient vampire in Dallas. Their paths cross Jason's as he seeks to discover meaning in his life with the Fellowship of the Sun, a church dedicated to anti-vampire activities.

The second plot line concerns a maenad named Maryann who visits Bon Temps after Tara attracts her attention at the end of the first season. Maryann is a figure from Sam's past and knows his true identity as a shapeshifter. Her influence on the town and its residents results in mayhem that grows more destructive as the season progresses.

The narrative of the show focuses on Carrie Bradshaw and her three best friends, Miranda Hobbes, Charlotte York and Samantha Jones. The women discuss their sexual desires and fantasies, and their travels in life, love and lesbianism. The show often depicts frank discussions about romance and sexuality, features a short montage of interviews of people living in New York City regarding topics discussed in that episode. These continue through season two but are eventually phased out.

Another feature that would eventually be scrapped is Carrie breaking the fourth wall (for example, looking into the camera and speaking to the audience directly in an aside). Bradshaw would question scenarios and ideas, asking the audience for an opinion or insight on different situations. The pilot also has the characters of Miranda and Charlotte as well as a few minor characters speaking directly to the camera/audience. The last such event by Carrie occurs in episode three of the second season, "The Freak Show".

The method of expressing inner monologues is shifted exclusively to voice overs by Carrie in future episodes. Her main narration usually revolves around the premise of that week's "column," where she often sums up her thoughts with, "I couldn't help but wonder..." As she says that, her computer monitor is shown while she is typing the text of her voice over.

As the Civil War begins, Scarlett accepts a proposal of marriage from Melanie's brother, Charles Hamilton, who soon dies of disease in training. Scarlett's main concern regarding his death is that she must wear black and cannot attend parties. After the war, Scarlett inherits Tara and manages to keep the place going. When Scarlett cannot get money from Rhett to pay the taxes on Tara, she marries her sister's fiance, Frank Kennedy, takes control of his business, and increases its profitability with business practices that make many Atlantans resent her. Frank is killed when he and other Ku Klux Klan members raid a shantytown where Scarlet was assaulted while driving alone. Remorseful after Frank's death, Scarlett marries Rhett, who is aware of her passion for Ashley but hopes that one day she will come to love him instead. Scarlett eventually comes to realize that she does love Rhett, but only once the couple has been through so much that Rhett has fallen out of love with her.

The series begins with Scarlett attending the funeral of her ex-sister-in-law and rival for Ashley Wilkes' affection, Melanie Wilkes, at which her estranged husband, Rhett Butler, is not present. Scarlett, heartbroken that Rhett has left her, sets out for Tara and is saddened when she learns that Mammy, her mainstay since birth, is dying. When she arrives at Tara, she sends a telegram to notify Rhett about Mammy under the name of Will Benteen (her sister Suellen's husband), because she knows that Rhett won't come if he suspects Scarlett is there. Before Mammy passes away she makes Rhett swear to look after "her lamb" Miss Scarlett. Rhett agrees, although he has no intention of honoring the request. After Mammy passes away, Rhett and Scarlett have another snipe-filled encounter, which culminates in Rhett leaving and Scarlett returning to the Atlanta house, determined to win Rhett back.

Widower and undertaker 41-year-old Cedric Brown (Colin Firth) has seven children. He loves his children very much, but spends little time with them, unable to handle raising them all on his own. The children have had a series of seventeen nannies, whom they systematically drive out; it is a point of pride for them to get rid of each nanny as fast as possible. Desperate to find another nanny, Cedric heeds the advice of a mysterious voice from the house, which says, "the person you need is Nanny McPhee." An unusual and hideous woman named Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) arrives at Brown home, introducing herself as a "government nanny". The children, led by Simon, attempt to play their tricks on her, but gradually start to respect her and ask her for advice.

The family is financially supported by the late Mrs. Brown's Aunt, Lady Adelaide Stitch (Angela Lansbury). Lady Adelaide demands custody over one of the children in order to ensure their continued education and proper upbringing in society and also demands that Cedric remarry within the month, threatening to cut off the family's allowance if he fails to do so. Desperate to keep his family together and prevent losing his house, Cedric turns to the vulgar Mrs. Selma Quickly, local widow of three husbands with garish taste in clothing. the children assume that stepmothers are all cruel, and attempt to sabotage a visit from Mrs. Quickly. When his proposal is ruined by more pranks, she leaves angrily and refuses see him again. After the children are explained the truth of their father's situation, they agree to the marriage, and appease Mrs. Quickly by confessing they were to blame for the disturbance of her visit, and lure her with promises of Aunt Adelaide's wealth.

Now you'll just have to get the movie in order to find out exactly how it ended. What happens with Evangeline, the 7 children and Nanny McPhee, you won't be disappointed!

I was at Walmart a couple of weeks ago just for something to do. Well I was looking around in the cheap DVD bin not looking for anything in particular but I found one of those duo DVD packages for cheap so I thought what the heck it's only 10$, if I don't like them it's really not a big lose. Well the two movies were Follow The River and Thicker Than Water and I'll tell ya, they're not bad movies. Now would I rush out to see them if they were in the theaters? Probably not and I doubt I'd spend more then the 5 bucks I spent on each one but I'm not disappointed that I bought them.

Follow The River

stars Sheryl Lee as Mary Ingles, younger people will remember from playing Payton's mom Ellie on One Tree Hill but older ones will remember from Twin Peaks, she was Maddy/Laura Palmer. A pregnant Mary Ingles, her son, her sister and another male member of their village were kidnapped by Shawnee Indians. The head brave was Wildcat, played by Eric Schweig (from the movie Last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day Lewis). Wildcat became impressed with how strong Mary was during these times and he gave her special privileges. Eventually he wanted her to leave with him and he would take care of her and her children but Mary just wanted to get back to her husband Will. Mary ended up being separated from her children and she and another lady, played by Ellen Burstyn, decided to try to get back to their lives. For anyone that did enjoy Last of the Mohicans you will definitely enjoy this movie as well.

Thicker Than Water

: stars Melissa Gilbert, everyone should remember her from Little House On The Praire and Lindsay Wagner, the Bionic Woman. Melissa Gilbert plays Natalie Jones an LA lawyer who's father, just passed away. She gets documents which tells her that he was previously married to rodeo queen, Maggie Mae. Natalie decides to go in search of any information she can about the woman and discovers Maggie had a daughter, Jess (Wagner). This is a very endearing family movie. It's made by Hallmark.

I remember my mother reading Dr. Dolittle to me when I was a kid and I also remember the 1967 version of Dr Dolittle with Rex Harrison playing Dolittle. Recently tho I saw the 1998 version of Dr Dolittle with Eddie Murphy. I've always liked Eddie Murphy, I find him quite funny but I often wonder why he found it necessary to swear in all his comedy acts. Now he's found out you don't have to curse and swear like a sailor to be funny.

Dr Dolittle is a comedy and family movie about a man who discovered he could talk to animals and they could understand him too. In the first movie, Dolittle not only learns of his unique ability but there's a lot of animals in need of his expertise. Including a tiger suffering from something on his brain. His colleges and his family thinks he's going nuts, as does he at one time, but they all learn that he's not so crazy after all. In the sequel which came out in 2001 Dolittle has come to terms with his ability, as has everyone else and he treats not only human patients but animals ones as well. In the sequel he's summoned to the forest by "the beaver". As it turns out there's a large company that is leveling the forest wanting to make it more commercialized. In order to help the animals, Dolittle has to be the love doctor and introduce Archie the bear to Ava the bear. Both of which are endangered species, being the only way they can save the forest.

The Dolittle family was played by the same people in both movies, Eddie Murphy as Dr Dolittle, Kristen Wilson as Lisa Dolittle, Raven-Symoné as Charisse Dolittle and Kyla Pratt as Maya Dolittle. So if you're looking for a movie for the entire family to watch, I highly recommend these ones. They're hilarious.

Batman and Friends and Foes

Batman's always been my favorite Superhero!! In the movies that is. I loved the first 4 Batman movies but the last two with Christian Bale, I'm just not sure about them. Since when did Batman become so dark and violent?? Oh well check out all the guys who've played Batman along with his sidekick Dick Grayson better known as Robin but did you know that Dick Grayson wasn't the only "Robin"? You can also check out all the guys who've played Alfred the butler too.

I grew up watching the Adam West version of Batman and Robin but when I got older my favorite Batman became Michael Keaton. In the first Batman played by Michael Keaton, Bruce Wayne/Batman took on the Joker played by Jack Nicholson and in Batman Returns, Batman took on Cat-Woman, played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Penguin played by Danny DeVito. The third, Batman Forever has Val Kilmer and he's joined by Robin played by Chris O'Donnell and together they fight Riddler, played by Jim Carrey and Two-Face played by Tommy Lee Jones. As a side note about Two-Face, everyone knows that Harvey Dent ends up as Two-Face but in the first Batman movie Harvey Dent had a small part in it and he was played by Billy Dee Williams. I can see changing actors to play a role but changing the actor to a different race?? Then we come to Batman and Robin with George Clooney as Batman and Chris O'Donnell as Robin. The Super Villains they take on are Mr Freeze played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Poison Ivy played by Uma Thurman. This one introduces another of the Bat Family, Batgirl played by Alicia Silverstone. The last Batman in both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight is played by Christian Bale, a much darker version of Batman. In the Dark Knight, Batman fights against another Joker played by Heath Ledger.

The Faces of Superman

I was never a big fan of the Superman Movies, I find them to be a little too cheesy. Even the lastest Superman Returns with Brandon Routh seems to be a little too "comic" for a movie. But I have liked the tv series on Superman. Back in the '80s there was the Dean Cain and Terri Hatcher version in Lois and Clark which wasn't too bad in it's day but to watch it now, well I think I'd lose interest. These days I do like to watch Clark Kent growing up in Smallville tho. However, with them taking Lex Luthor out, I'm not sure just how good it will be but time will tell.

The Green Mile

I'm not a big Stephen King fan at all but I do have to say my all time favorite movie has to be The Green Mile. As a matter of fact tho I have never even read his books on the Green Mile and John Coffey but I simply loved this movie. And it's not something I'd even associate with Stephen King.

Based in the 1930's during the depression Tom Hanks (Paul Edgecombe) plays a security guard on death row called the Green Mile. What an outstanding performance by Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan who plays John Coffey, an 8 foot tall man who was brought in for the rape and murder of 2 little girls. As the story goes along, the real story of John Coffey and the 2 little blonde girls comes out. Afterward the guards are struck with a moral dilemma as to what to do with John Coffey. Also starring in the movie is David Morse (Brutal), Barry Pepper (Dean Stanton), Doug Hutchison (Percy, csi fans will recognize him as Nick's stalker), Bonnie Hunt (Jan, Paul's wife) and a small part by Gary Sinise (John Coffey's lawyer). This movie definitely is a must see. Altho I've never read the books by Stephen King, I think I'm gonna have to pick them up one day and read them to see how much of a difference there is between them and the movie.

If you're into the barbarian movies, you'll enjoy Gladiator. With Russell Crowe playing lead as Maximus what could go wrong?? Set in the times of Roman Emperor Marcus Auerlis (also known as "the wise"). General Maximus Decimus Meridius is a good and loyal friend to the present Emperor Marcus Auerlis until his death, he's captured and enslaved because he refused to accept the new emperor, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) who is also the son of Marcus Auerlis. Maximus works himself up thru the ranks of Gladiator to his final match facing the emperor Commodus for his final match.

Over all a great movie with some damn fine acting. Russell Crowe, Richard Harris, better known as Dumbledore from Harry Potter, Joaquin Phoenix, known for his role as Johnny Cash in Walk the line, all with some pretty fine creditials under their belts. Altho there's some pretty gory scenes in this movie, I've seen far worse in the so-called horror movies like Elm St.

One of my favorite scenes in this movie is when Commodus finds out his plan to kill Maximus had failed.

Gotta love those conspiracy theory movies! One of my favorite ones has to be Conspiracy Theory with Julia Roberts and Mel Gibson. He plays a wacky cab driver who writes "conspiracy theories" he thinks up himself and publishes them to a paper, low and behold one of his theories hits the nail on the head, she plays a US Government official who Gibson's character is in love with and he keeps taking his theories to her. Eventually you find out some other little secrets to Gibson's character but I won't give away secrets. It really is a great movie for sure. My latest favs being The Bourne Trilogy. The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. This however, might be a cross between Conspiracy Theory and The Universal Solider (with Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren). Another for Julia Roberts would have to The Pelican Brief, where she plays a student who wrote a paper on the assasination of 2 Supreme Court Justices, as it turns out everyone who's read this brief ends up being murdered except Denzel Washington plays the news reporter she takes her theory to, to get it published. First tho I have to say, who the heck knew Matt Damon could actually act!?!?! And he's good at it too...LOL...I love the way they actually integrated the movies with each other rather then make it look like new parts to his life. Jason Bourne (Damon) is an experiment wrong array. It starts as he's pulled out of the water by a fisherman, having 2 bullets in his back and amnesia, he needs to discover who he is and what happened to him. This is however, a movie you do need to pay attention to. I have this bad habit of wandering away or trying to do other things while a movie is playing but in the blink of an eye I missed quite a few very pertinent things in it and had to watch it over again. And the final scene in the second movie is actually a scene in the middle of the third movie, they just elaborate on it more. However, I do believe they may come out with a fourth one to it due to the strange way they left the things with the Nicky, she also worked for the same organization that Bourne was in. A secret organization in the government that was training killers. Bourne being their first pet project. Robert Lundlum, the author of the Bourne Trilogy died however in March of 2001 leaving behind outlines and rough drafts of future books which are being published by "ghostwriters". So if they do make a fourth edition to this serious, I wonder, will it be just as good or will the "new writer" come out in it instead?

The Seeker

With all the hype over the Harry Potter chronicles it's not surprising that someone would try to jump on the bandwagon in sorts and cash in on it. The Seeker is about a boy who learns that he is the last of a group of immortal warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the dark. He has to travel thru time to get 6 signs to give the Light power. It's sort of a weird movie. The concept of it isn't too bad but the acting in it is horrendous!! I can't even compare it to anything cause I don't think I've ever seen anything with such bad acting in it. I guess it wouldn't be too bad if you were a 5 year old tho, you might like it. As I said the concept of the movie wasn't a bad idea, it was just the over-acting and lack of talent that did more bad then good. For anyone who's watched any of Harry Potter tho, you'll know that Harry was called "The Seeker" on the Quidditch team he was on. And as the Seeker it was his job to "seek" out and capture the "Snitch" (a little gold ball with wings) before the other team's Seeker. It's Will's job in The Seeker to travel thru time to find "signs" which are round little balls of gold light. When Harry found out he was "a great wizard" he was only a teen as is Will Stanton. Harry's best friend from school is Ron Weasley, the youngest boy in a family of 7 children (6 boys 1 girl), their father being a "civil servant" who liked to tinker with things from the "muggle world" Will was also from a family of 7 (6 boys and 1 girl). I'm unsure what Will's father did but it was along the same lines as Mr Weasley.

If you choose to watch this movie, don't have high hopes of another "Harry Potter" type but more along the lines of The Muppets.

Troy, The Movie

MMMMMMMMM Brad Pitt!! AND Eric Bana together.....what a fantasy :D Well after watching this movie, it really would be a nice fantasy.

However there are quite a few differences in the movie and the book, The Iliad. Still a good movie tho.

In the movie it's stated that Agamemnon brought the kings together for it which really isn't true. Helen had many powerful suitors and her father was too afraid to pick one of them for her husband in fear of offended the others. Odysseus convinced him to make a contract with the other suitors that made them promise that should anything happen to Helen, the other kings would assist in getting her back. When Paris kidnapped her from Menelaus, they were bound to honor their promise and help to return her. When Paris was born, it was predicted that he would be the downfall of Troy, so he was sent into the mountains without any knowledge of who he really was. Aphrodite was the one who promised him the most beautiful woman in the world and started the Trojan War.

In the movie Patroclus is Achilles's cousin but in the book he is his lover. I'm glad they made the change in the movie tho, cause I just couldn't picture Brad Pitt with a male lover (not that there's anything wrong with that).

In the movie Briseis is a member of Priam's family which she actually wasn't. She was simply a slave girl that Achilles in fact did fall in love with and Agamemnon did steal from him. And she didn't kill Agamemnon like they said in the movie. Agamemnon actually made it back home where his wife and her lover murdered him.

Altho Hector was a great warrior in his time, after he killed Patroclus, he didn't actually come out to face Achilles as easily as the movie depicts it. Achilles chased him around the walls of Troy 3 times before he actually stopped to fight him. Hector never killed Menelaus either or Ajax. Ajax committed suicide after Odysseus was given Achilles armor over him.

Now I understand that a movie has only a couple of hours in it and there's alot to the Trojan War then time would permit in a movie so they have to condense in down. But this war took about 20 years to finish and not the few months or so that is depicted in the movie. And Helen helped in it's destruction along with Odysseus. All in all tho, I do like this movie and it is worth it to watch.

A Little Retro

I was a little bit bored today so I decided to root thru the DVDs to see what was good to watch and came up with the 1985 Miniseries of North and South. I've watched the made for tv miniseries on it as well as read the books by John Jakes which are North and South, Love and War and Heaven and Hell. And I loved them both. There are differences between the movie and the books, which is understandable as they do have edit it for TV. There is a lot more in the books then the movies but I still loved them any way.

As you probably well know the North and South miniseries is about two families, the Hazards from Lehigh Station Pennsylvania and the Mains from Mont Royal South Carolina. And their struggles to keep their friendship thru out the civil war. If you haven't read the books or saw the miniseries then I highly suggest you do, to both reading the books as well as watching the shows. The miniseries had some pretty big names in it too, Patrick Swayze, Lesley Ann Down, Kirstie Alley, Jean Simmons, Teri Garber, Genie Francis, David Carradine, Inga Swenson, Georg Stanford Brown, Robert Mitchum, Morgan Fairchild, Johnny Cash, Gene Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, David Ogden Stiers, Mitch Ryan, Forrest Whittaker, Parker Stevenson, Lloyd Bridges, Olivia de Havilland, Linda Evans, Hal Hobrook, Lee Horsley, Wayne Newton, James Stewart, Michael Dudikoff, Robert Englund, Robert Wagner, Billy Dee Williams......to name just a few. And with a star line up like these awesome actors how can you say no to watching it.

A couple of things they do that I don't really care for is changing the actors. I realize some times it can't be helped but it's too bad the same actor/actress didn't last thru out the entire 3 movies. For Book 3 the actor for Charles Main was changed and the actress for Isabelle Hazard changed for each movie. And the fight scenes were kinda cheesy, but considering the time this movie was made it wasn't too bad.
